Hello! I’d like to try Vikunja as my self-hosted planning management tool
But the thing I really can’t wrap my head around is the difference between the due date and the end date fields
The thing is that the Upcoming section shows only tasks with specified due date. It’s not convenient to plan tasks in gantt view and then manually setting up Due Date in each task. I have already set up end date.
Why are there 2 identical columns with different names? And is there any chance to reconfigure Upcoming section to work with End Dates?
The due date is indicating when a task must be done, whereas the end date us about the duration of the task (combined with the start date). Both can be independent of each other.
Additionally, Vikunja can remind you of tasks which are past their due date and still undone.
You can create a saved filter to show you only the tasks you want to see, using the end date.
Thank you for your answer, @kolaente! As far as I understood Due Date should be specified always when you want to mark an expected end of the task. After the task is marked Done the End Date is updated to change a lifetime of the task. Wherefore the End Date could have a value in the future after Due Date (deadline) is expired
You’ve suggested to use filters. Correct me if I’m wrong but filters could be applied only on the task list of specific project. It’s not possible to view all tasks of all projects with applied filter on them. Am I correct?
You see, I want to use something close to sprints, so I want to see tasks from all projects which are needed to be done in the current week. I guess my only option is to use Upcoming section with specified Due Date and there is no workaround to that now. It would be cool if Upcoming section could be filtered like task list in the specific project
Answering my question I found out how this could be accomplished
In project section there is an option to create “fake” project with filter. This filter allows you to index all tasks in all projects
I named this project “Sprint View” and entered the next query
done = false && endDate > now/w && endDate < now/w+1w
It’s what I need
