Hi,
I’m just taking Vikunja for a spin and wondering about certain limitations.
In general, feature requests like this reflect my own concerns.
It seems to me that the advantage of the whiteboard and post-it concept is an overview of a complex set of tasks, yet at every turn Vikunja seems to silo objects within their own myopic view.
For example, I’d like to see projects and subprojects together on the same gantt chart, but it doesn’t seem possible. I’ve seen suggestions to use saved filters and tried that with something like project in P1, P2 , project = (P1 || P2) , etc, but I got server errors.
Also, I’d like to see some visual indication of task relationships. For example, colours showing conflicting timelines for blocking tasks on the gantt chart, or maybe just some grouping and indenting on task lists.
I’ve only been messing around for an hour or so, and I like a lot of the app. However, it’s really the first one I’ve tried that hasn’t been forced on me by a work environment so, although I need something soon and with minimal effort, I’m still just exploring options.
Please let me know if I’m missing some obvious features! Some more saved filter examples would be a good start. Also, I haven’t even looked at the API, and it may be that I can write some of my own viewers…
Cheers!

PS: I’ve made some progress with task relationships, as I found I’d entered the inverted sense (ie, task as parent of rather than child of). Just to comment, the entry form for this is ambiguous. For example, it’s not clear whether the task being edited or the one selected takes the primary role in the relation.
PPS: It would be good if the task table view offered a ‘has parent’ or ‘has children’ column, maybe clickable to expand.
