Copying test from within a task description doesn’t keep its formatting anymore. So for example when you create a heading and a checklist, and try to copy it, then you will only copy the raw text and will not keep any formatting info.
The current stable release 0.24.6 from 6 months ago had it working, but on the latest unstable branch on try it doesn’t work.
This is now fixed in fix: improve markdown paste detection by kolaente · Pull Request #939 · go-vikunja/vikunja · GitHub, please check with the next unstable build (should be ready for deployment in ~30min, also on try).

The dash is the problem in this case. Not sure if there aren’t more characters that break this.
Which text did you paste and what did it look like after pasting?
I copied the bottom part from the screenshot above and pasted it and get the top part from the screenshot
