Hi all,
after upgrading from Vikunja v0.24.6 to v1.0.0-rc3, I noticed a behavior with email notifications related to due dates and reminders that I am not sure is expected, so I wanted to report it in case it is a bug or a misconfiguration on my side.
In the previous version, when a task had a due date in the future and a reminder set (for example two weeks before the due date), the email notification was sent only when the reminder time was reached, and the task was marked as overdue only after the due date had actually passed.
With v1.0.0-rc3, I now receive “overdue task” email notifications even though the due date is still far in the future and the reminder date has not been reached yet.
For example, if a task has a due date set to June 1st, 2026 and a reminder set to two weeks before, I already receive overdue notifications now while the current date is February 2026, even though the task should not be considered overdue yet.
This does not seem to happen only for a single task but for multiple tasks with different dates, and the behavior appears somewhat inconsistent. Email notifications are enabled and working correctly, and the timezone configuration seems to be correct as well. The same setup worked as expected before the upgrade.
It is very possible that I am missing something in the configuration, but I wanted to report this in case there is a regression or an issue in how reminder or overdue dates are handled in v1.0.0-rc3.
Please let me know if you need logs or additional information to investigate this further.
